As soon as the JV Midgets took the field the sky opened and the rain starting pouring and the slipping and sliding begin. November 1, 2008
The boys of the JV Midget squad were filled with mixed emotions coming into Saturday’s division match-up. The pressure was on to do a repeat of last year’s championship game in which their talents stole the game from the Cowboys. There were complaints of stomach aches and some players just couldn’t keep still, but when it came time to take the field, the focus was on one thing… WINNING. The defense was the topic of discussion, they put on another classic performance that with stood any Blue Star onslaught. The Lions scored 1st on a 40 yd run by Kadofi Wright. The attempt at the extra point was thwarted by the Cowboys. Late in the 3rd quarter an interception thrown by Waller would take the cowboys to their 5yd line and subsequently end in a score. The defense was able to hold the XP attempt. The end of regulation play timed out in a tie. The Lions received the ball for the attempt in OT. After 3 downs, Brandon Harris and Buckingham opened the path for Waller to push the ball into the endzone. Buckingham grabbed the throw from Waller and nailed the 2pt conversion. The crowd went wild and the chats of DEFENSE DEFENSE were echoed through the grounds. Coach Morris sprang into action and his boys did not let him down. On the 4th down he switched in the heavy hitters Buckingham, Conway and Andre Anderson who put an end to the Cowboys bout for the Northern Division title. It’s a new day and the road to redemption is steep. The JV Midgets prepare this week to defend their title in the 1st round playoffs.
